The Scart Story: The Quest for Absolute Sound.
The Spark: The Riva Demand (1980s-1990s)
The Spark: The Riva Demand (1980s-1990s)
It all began with a raw emotion: that of a teenager fascinated by the roar of Riva boats on Italian lakes and the uncompromising stance of their manufacturer, who preferred to close the factory rather than lower its standards. This obsession of Martin Scart's for uncompromising sound and quality planted a seed that would take years to germinate. After an initial career in purchasing automotive parts and working for an American equipment manufacturer, the realization dawned in the late 1990s: the exhaust systems on the market (particularly for Porsche) were being mass-produced, soulless, like Lego bricks, by people who listened to music on headphones rather than the sound of the engine.
Genesis and the Prototype (1999 - 2003)
Scart was born from a rejection of mediocrity. In 1999, the company distributed parts, but the technical frustration was too great. The first exhaust prototypes were developed in 2002-2003 with a clear objective: to make the Flat 6 sing.
- April 2003: The first advertisement appears in Flat 6 Magazine. This is the official launch with references that have become cult classics like the "Tube Cup" and the "Swan Neck".
- 2005: The turning point is made. We stop selling general spare parts to focus 100% on stainless steel exhaust systems.
The Philosophy of Sound: The Body and the Ear
At Scart, we quickly grasped something others ignored: sound isn't just heard, it's felt physically. A successful exhaust should send shivers down your spine without damaging your brain. We worked tirelessly to eliminate droning (that detrimental resonance), a lesson learned from studying design flaws in certain naturally aspirated engines. This is where our expertise lies: finding the perfect balance between bass, treble, and depth.
The Technological Turning Point: The Age of Valves (2008)
The year 2008 marked a major technological breakthrough. With the arrival of the 997 Phase 2, we developed our first valved exhaust system. It was a revelation: the ability to give the car a dual personality. It was also the time when, driven by enthusiasts like Yvon Bléville, we decided to cover the entire Porsche range, from the 924 to the GT3, and not just the most profitable models. If it's a Porsche, we have to have the exhaust.
Industrial Anchoring: Made in France (2012)
To guarantee our high standards, we needed to control the production process. In 2012, Scart moved to Goussainville, near Paris. We bought the machines and brought in the welders and craftspeople. The workshop became the heart of the operation. It's here that we transform stainless steel into something emotional, far removed from outsourced production.
Global Ambition (Today)
Having explored the American market in California as early as 2015 and recognized its immense potential, Scart is shifting into high gear. Since 2022-2023, with the arrival of new partners and a strong focus on digitalization, we are structuring our approach to the international market. France is our workshop, the world is our distribution network.
